Following IAIO 2026 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the Olympiad moves to Southeast Asia for the first time. Australia's team is selected through the national rounds — Round 1 is online on Tuesday 15 December 2026; Round 2 (16–17 January 2027) and the national training camp (21–26 January) are held in Melbourne.
What is IAIO?
Organised by the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) at the Jožef Stefan Institute, IAIO brings together the brightest young minds to compete in theoretical and practical AI challenges. Australia is a member country.
Scientific Round
Paper-based mathematical and algorithmic problems on the ideas behind machine learning. Answers are typed and submitted as a PDF.
Practical Round
A full day of hands-on AI model development on a laptop provided by the organisers, with the environment and data preloaded.
